EDITOR,

I’m curious to know what Five Star Supply did with the $640,000 it owes the state in sales tax (“Tracy-based businesses owes state big money,” Sept. 5). Don’t they just collect the tax money on goods they sell and forward it to the state? Or do they have a lot of deadbeat accounts that have outstanding debt owed to them?

This theft of tax revenue from the state and the people and city of Tracy needs to be corrected.

Stockton Mazda and Stockton Volkswagen are not only stealing from the locals, they’re probably stealing from every taxpayer in the nation as well. I wonder how much money the federal government owes these car dealerships in Cash for Clunkers reimbursements? Perhaps these reimbursements should go directly to the State Franchise Tax Board.

They’ve owed the state this revenue for the past 10 years? The state’s solution to recovering this revenue is to publicize the names of debtors? Court appearances and jail time would be much more effective.

Mr Oshiro:

Thank you for contributing to the blog. I'm a little confused with your statement about the collecting of taxes. I just lost $300,000 on my home and my taxes have not been adjusted to the drop in value.

If it were about $50.00 per month I wouldn't mind, but the taxes are still about $5,800 per year that's about $480.00 per month. Many people are walking away from their homes because of the drop in value.

Business are doing the same thing. Without the tax help from sales, the city will suffer. On the other hand the local State and federal taxes are killing business. It's a no win situation for everyone. We need to get people involved, I have for the last 12 years running for office. You should try it?

If one hand knows what the other hand is doing also considering fed and state? It would surprise me if there were a high percentage of Mazdas and Volkswagons sold that qualified for the cash for clunkers unless someone was trading in their dog/truck/etc. The fuel rating is not as good on some of hose cars. That being said it's probably a better idea than the one Joe Wilsen exposed where we just print more dollars.

You make many great points. I do not know if Businesses can have thier wages garneshed. They should be shut down if nothing else.
