Tracy’s Salvation Army, 241 E. 10th St., was able to help 70 kids during its annual back-to-school shopping spree Aug. 3 at Wal-Mart.

Each child received $125 for school clothes and shoes. Each boy and girl also got a backpack filed with school supplies from Wal-Mart and a certificate for a haircut.

All-American Scholar

Quenton Alley, a student at the Institute for Global Commerce and Government at West High School, was nominated as an All-American Scholar at the United State Achievement Academy.

All-American Scholars, according to the academy, must maintain at least a 3.3 grade-point average. Quenton will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook. He is the son of Dennis and Vonda Alley of Tracy. His grandparents are Douglas and Mora Weldon of Detroit and Charles and Shirley Alley of Dresden, Tenn.
