Today’s Remember When “mystery photo” shows the photo of a woman who was no mystery to many Tracyites several decades ago. Who was she, and what was her place in Tracy history?

Last week’s Remember When “mystery photo” taken by Press photographer Glenn Moore, was well-remembered by a number of Tracyites. The wind-whipped blaze on Aug. 27, 1999, destroyed four houses under construction on Hollowbrook Court in the Pebblebrook subdivision in south Tracy and damaged a fifth.

Don Cose, who was developing the homes, wrote: “I remember the fire only too well. We lost a lot of money at our Pebblebrook subdivision that day. A plumber was the culprit. He was soldering a pipe and set the adjoining wood on fire. The Tracy winds did the rest.”

Also remembering the fire were Karen Hayashi; Robin Gooch, who reported that residents on nearby Quail Run Circle provided refreshments to the firefighters; and Kevin Fields, who witnessed the fire the day he moved into a home on nearby Glenbriar Circle. “It was some welcome to the neighborhood,” he said.
