David Philpott took the lead away from Brentwood’s Doff Cooksey on the fifth lap of the first race, and held onto the lead until Lap 32 when engine trouble forced him to pull out of the race. His son, Justin, was right there to take over the lead and hang on for his fourth win of the season, which keeps him at the top of the Western Late Model points standings at Stockton 99.
In the second 50-lap event, David Philpott and Jeff Belletto of Modesto competed for the lead at the start of the race before Philpott pulled ahead on Lap 12. Belletto withdrew on Lap 16 with mechanical trouble. Philpott held on against challenges from Atwater’s Carlos Vieira for the win, and Justin Philpott came in fourth.
Scott Winters of Tracy took his ninth win in a row in the Grand American Modifieds after he started in the No. 10 spot, the back of the crowd, and quickly moved up to reach second place by Lap 6. He passed Michael Ostrowski of Salida to take the lead on Lap 14 and held the lead until the end of the 39-lap race.
