A caller reported at 9:32 p.m. Thursday that a man walking down Corral Hollow and Linne roads with a shovel in his hands threw the shovel at a passing car.

An officer talked to the man, who said he was bi-polar and upset about the fire in the hills south of Tracy, so he grabbed a shovel to help battle the blaze.

But he got frustrated at how far away the fire was, and then got angry when motorists refused to give him a ride to the flames.

An officer convinced the man it’s best “to leave the firefighting to the fire department,” and gave the guy a ride to his mother’s house.

The Tracy Police Department received 218 calls for service on Thursday. The following is a sample of those calls.

1:14 a.m.: A man on the 500 block of Krider Court told police he “needs a crazy lady out of the house.” He said she came over to have a beer but refused to leave, even though “he’s been wrestling with her to get her out of the house.” When police showed up, she was gone.

9:27 a.m.: A man on the 500 block of Krider Court reported someone vandalized his door and fence, and he had information about a suspect he wanted to pass on to police.

9:34 p.m.: A caller from Stein Continuation School, 650 W. 10th St., reported someone damaged bathrooms during the night.

10:02 a.m.: Someone turned in a wallet to the police station, 1000 Civic Center Drive, that was found in the street.

12:11 p.m.: A caller reported a dead cat in a crosswalk at Holly Drive and Grant Line Road. Police took away the animal.

1:51 p.m.: A woman on the 900 block of Weeping Willow Court said she talked with a girl who said she was raped twice and the victim of domestic violence by her boyfriend. The woman told police the girl was evasive because she might be reported as a runaway.

1:03 p.m.: A woman reported her gold 1994 Saturn was stolen from the 2800 block of Ponte Mira Way.

1:04 p.m.: A woman reported she left her ATM card in an ATM machine at Wells Fargo Bank, 1900 W. 11th St., then canceled the card, but not before someone withdrew $300 from her account.

1:33 p.m.: A caller reported a guy ran into his car then walked into the Tracy Superior Court, 475 E. 10th St. The two exchanged names and other information.

3:06 p.m.: A woman on the 1100 block of Solomon Court reported that her friend was trying to fight her in the caller’s home. The caller said she let a friend stay at her place for awhile, but asked her to leave. The houseguest got mad and tried to fight. Police arrested a 29-year-old woman.

3:10 p.m.: A woman on the 300 block of General Lane reported a neighbor caught a guy in her car. When the neighbor approached the man, he got in a blue Ford Escort and took off. The caller said the man went through the trunk of her car.

3:33 p.m.: A caller’s home was broken into on the 2800 block of Compton Place and “many items” were taken.

3:47 p.m.: Police made an arrest after a caller reported a fight at La Costa, 240 E. 11th St., after 10 boys yelled at a woman.

5:14 p.m.: A caller reported a driver was “all over the road” at 11th Street and Lammers Road after leaving the freeway. An officer said the driver was “fatigued” rather than drunk.

6:02 p.m.: Police arrested a man who had no identification on suspicion of shoplifting at Save Mart, 2005 N. Tracy Blvd.

6:20 p.m.: A kid reported a bearded man carrying a wine bottle who looked to be about 20 stole his iPod in Bill Schwartz Park, 1800 Peony Drive. Police failed to find the suspect and gave the kid a ride home.

7:22 p.m.: A 15-year-old girl went for a walk on the 700 block of Bogetti Lane in the morning and never returned home, a parent reported. The girl was found in a safe house in Stockton.

7:43 p.m.: A woman on the 1600 block of Bondy Lane reported the boyfriend of her son’s ex-girlfriend sent a text message that threatened to beat up her son. The son is 23, and the suspect is “known to have a gun,” the woman said. An officer was in front of the house when the guy drove by, but the son wanted no further police involvement.

7:57 p.m.: A man at his girlfriend’s house on the 400 block of Monarch Lane reported that his girlfriend tried to flush his checkbook down the toilet after they got into a fight. She left in a pickup, but a neighbor called to say the guy was in the middle of the street threatening the woman. A third caller said the guy was the woman’s ex-boyfriend, who was in the woman’s garage “doing something with the electrical.”

8:52 p.m.: A woman said a neighbor called to say someone was trying to break into her house on the 1800 block of Earl Way. The caller’s husband went into the backyard, and was heard yelling, “Hey!’ A witness reported seeing “foster kids” break into the home before they took off running. An officer tracked down a girl, cited her and released her to the custody of a social worker.

9:19 p.m.: A caller from Save Mart, 2005 N. Tracy Blvd., reported three people were caught shoplifting, but two got away and tried to run down a security guard in a Lincoln Continental while they drove off. A man drove the car, a woman was in the passenger seat and a baby was in the car too, the caller said. One woman was in custody and told police who the other two people were. Police arrested her.

10:11 p.m.: A man complained that the friend of his stepson walked into the back door of his home on the 1900 block of Gibson Court without knocking. The called wanted the guy charged with trespassing. It turned out the guy walked in the house when no one heard him knock, and “took his time” leaving when asked.

11:01 p.m.: Police arrested a 20-year-old man on the 3100 block of Cynthia Court after a caller reported a man had his face bloodied in a fight in which he was pinned to the ground.

This column includes a sample of items as reported in the Tracy Police Department dispatcher’s daily log. Additional information is based on reports from officers and other law enforcement agencies. To report information anonymously about a crime: Crime Stoppers, 831-6847.

I like the newsroom humor. It's one of the reasons I find the Tracy News so attractive. Us folks out here are inundated with bad news. Horrific stories. Then I read about Tracy PD chasing loose chickens and I burst into laughter. And I really loved the idiot taggers' posted nonsense. Without realizing it they gave us all a voyage thru what constitutes their brains. I laughed SOO hard. And yes the wannabe firefighter story had me laughing.

Was referring to selection of politically charged TracyPress headlines - like the one above - by the "TP Staff"?:

"Upset 'firefighter' tosses shovel at car"

Newsroom humor?

I don't know why the Tracy Press said he was a 'firefigher'?

Tracy Press: Please don't make the association about 'firefighters' throwing 'shovels' at cars in the headlines?!

Fact: This guy didn't work for the City or the Tracy Fire Department.

Fact: This guy wasn't getting paid (or overtime) from the State of California or the City of Tracy, CA.

You can stop now!

If I was an LAPD cop I'd profile everyone and shoot people who looked funny. Well pardon me all the heck for saying that but I'm going home to cold beers, pizza and family unblemished after my shift ends. Los Angeles,San Francisco and most other big American cities are sewers. If I'm sent out there to clean things up I'll be doing a Clint Eastwood-on-steroids to the populace. I don't care a hoot if this embarrasses the Chief politically. So who's going to hire me? I'm itching to pack heat and a badge.

Tracy cops are really nice. Had this happened in Los Angeles the LAPD would've shot the guy then claimed he was resisting arrest and/or appeared to be reaching for a gun
