Your Voice: Noisy, angry, not un-American

EDITOR,

Large, noisy crowds at some Congressional town hall meetings have resulted in the cancelation of some scheduled meetings and sharp criticism from certain representatives. But the charge that the crowds are “carrying Nazi signs” and “busing in demonstrators” is a bit exaggerated.

Having watched several videos of the subject events, I see little, if any evidence of Nazi signs or any professionally produced signs.

And I saw no evidence of Code Pink or ACORN-type imprinted clothing, characteristic of bused-in demonstrators. In fact, crowds were criticized by the Speaker of the House for being “too well-dressed.”

The crowds did drown out some host speakers, but only after a speaker told them that he didn’t have time to read these 1,000-page bills. The crowd also roared when told, repeatedly, that President Obama did not want a “public option” for health care.

In fact, candidate Obama advocated a single-payer (read, government) system. He has not repudiated that position, and these crowds are aware of that fact.

These “mobs” clearly want Congress to halt deficit spending, to take the time to read all bills before voting and to stop government intrusion into the private sector of the economy.

Shouting down speakers is not proper behavior, but it is not “un-American,” as some have charged.

PrdTracyLib,

I do beileve the economic class was taught last night, over a PHONE-EY conference call with Jerry wearing ROSE-EY colored glasses?

Apperantly Proud Liberals are all for socialism and spending every last dime on More and More of socialism. Oh, and raising our taxes. If you let them.

But, do you realize that the Barama already admitted that the country is 'already broke' and even advocated single payer healthcare, for the record?

Where do you plan to come up with the money? Tell me wise grasshopper? It might amuse you to no end, but this isn't just some place to make jokes about "economics 101".

Frankly PrdLib, with liberals like you, I'm just glad folks are speaking out and exposing your house of cards.

You guys make GWB look good and frankly I don't know if I could ever vote for another Democrat after this.

Stay proud brother. You're doing a great job.

These 'mobs' want to stop deficit spending but need jobs? These people need to take an economics class.

If these people want the governments to get out of the health care business, I'm all for it....as soon as they all sign on for getting rid of Medicare. Let's see how that flies.

Just hope none of those protesters are hired by anyone to instigate disruptions during the meetings!!!

Just a year ago dissent was patriotic. Obnoxious protests with posters of Bush in Nazi garb was a-ok. But now it's not. I wish they'd have PSA's about when it is and isn't appropriate to question authority. The more you know!

The town hall video that disturbed me th most was th one in St. Louis whair th folks holdin the meetin brought in union workers ta control/intimidate th crowd. Kind of remined me of pre-war Germany when Hitler's brown shirts did th same sort of thing.

Liked th AARP meetin in Tampa Fl also. AARP get's a meetin with thair members ta answer questions an when th members ask they get upset, take their little microphone with them and went home leavin the members by themselves.

Way to go AARP, nice way to treat yer members an attract new members. NOT!

An people wonder why folks are upset?
