Rep. Jerry McNerney will have a telephone town hall meeting next week to discuss health care reform.

Residents of McNerney’s District 11 can call his offices at 476-8552 or 925-737-0727 by Wednesday to be added to the callback list. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. that day, McNerney’s office will call as many registered numbers as possible to hear from people. Spokeswoman Sarah Hersh said that if a call is not returned because of time restraints, the office would follow up with the caller later to answer questions.

“It’s certainly an issue that folks are interested in hearing from their congressman about,” Hersh said. “We’re going to provide opportunities for constituents to share those thoughts.”

Hersh said now that McNerney is home this month, he has been planning meetings to talk with locals. In addition to the telephone town hall, he will meet with Mountain House residents on August 15 to talk about foreclosure prevention.

Hersh noted this meeting will be a continuation of the health care listening tour McNerney started last month, when he met with seniors, doctors and other groups throughout San Joaquin County.

Tracy resident Kathy Breeden said she was upset when she called McNerney’s office earlier this month to ask if the congressman was holding a meeting about health care, finding that at the time, nothing was planned.

Breeden called the Tracy Press, and Hersh announced the scheduled the town hall telephone meeting after Hersh was asked why McNerney had yet to schedule a meeting on health care.

Hersh said that the number of calls McNerney’s office has taken in regards to health care has been about equal to the inquiries about other issues.

“He should be talking about health care, that’s a number-one national priority right now,” Breeden said.

I hope other dissatisfied citizens are reading these comments. I was just disconnected from the phone(y) town hall meeting, without an opportunity to participate. This needs to be made public. The meeting is a sham, it truly is PHONY! Everyone who cares to have a voice in our country and our congressional district needs to let Rep McNerney know this is not acceptable. They wonder why ordinary citizens are yelling out their displeasure at Town Hall Meetings. Our voices must be heard by our local congressman.

Congressman McNerney should hold a public townhall meeting,as well as the phone(y) town hall meeting. This looks like he is afraid to face his constituents. Thank goodness his term is only 2 years. He knows how to spend "our" money too easily. Follows the democratic line, spend, spend, spend...grow big federal govt... control, control, control...

Call or email everyone in the district you know, to sign up for this phone(y) conference being held this Wed Evening at 6 pm.

Everyone that signs up for McNerny's telephone town hall should have the opportunity to be on the call. We should report to the press is we don't and when and how long it takes him to answer our questions. The constituents in his 11th district need to know how effecient he is in responding. Last year I was at a town hall and apparently he had lied to someone previously in a question regarding our troops, she caught him in another lie and called him a lier. I had questions that he could not answer at the time, but he asked me to fill out a paper with my detailed question and ya know!, I still havn't heard anything on that issue. On another occasion he sent me a form letter applauding my agreement with him on an issue, in my writing to him I was actually opposed to him on the issue.

Amazing writeup and photo essay of the protests staged at Nancy Pelosi's latest public appearance:

I wonder if opponents of the Obama/Dem health care proposals will be allowed to get a word in on McNerney's conference call?

Here's truth in a nutshell. When politicians say they're going to tax the rich, this is a destroyer of hope for the poor and middle class. Why strive so hard to become wealthy when,if you succeed,it'll all be stolen from you by the government? Anyone can become wealthy. You could buy a winning lottery ticket. A relative could die and leave you millions. And if you do get the money the government will take it all leaving you enough to buy a hamburger and six pack of beer. Why? Because the government says you owe it to the poor. You'll say "Wait a minute. I was poor yesterday but I won the lottery so aren't you happy for me?". No,Bubba. The government won't be happy because you have suddenly become 'the wealthy' which means you've become an Enemy of the State.

MK u r right reform is needed, but that is not Obama's plan, single payer destroys all of the insurance cos. and a good part of the US economy, I have faith that the free market system, properly regulated, can run healthcare better than the US Govt ever could.

Here's another easy fix for America's health care problem. I pay $300 a month for life-saving drugs that I can buy in Canada or Mexico for $100. Same drugs, different nations, three times the price. You go to a hospital today in America they charge you $50 for an aspirin tablet.

Do you know how much of your health care dollar you spend goes to insurance? Check it out..no wonder they do not want reform, Any fiscally responsible conservative would want to see reform.

Gee,I wonder why we don't hear anything from Congress about tort reform? Because most members of Congress are lawyers, that's why. Tort reform would drastically lower the cost of health care.

Sounds like a wise decision to me. Due to the fact the Insurance Lobbies are spending over a million a day to instigate chaos so there will be no civil discourse on health care reform, Sad but in a free country i guess they have that right to keep the rest of us from receiving information. Anyone watching the previous townhalls can see how the health industry has done their best to keep any debate from occurring. Yelling and "just say no" educates no one to the issues

Hi Tinfoil - I'm in McNerney's 11th district and I had to do the same search - my bad for not recognizing my own congressperson's affiliation. Guaranteed I won't forget next election! No denying the role special interests play in politics across America. IF, and that's IF, I can get a callback to participate on the town call next week, I'm going to ask why he can't find time to have a face-to-face with his constituents on THE most important policy issue this country has faced in 50 years.

The Democrats figured out they'd better have telephone conference calls, because this is what happens when the SEIU thugs show up at a face to face townhall. The guy who was attacked was handing out "Don't tread on me" flags to people exiting the meeting.

The big guy in the purple shirt getting handcuffed toward the end of the video is seen throwing the guy to the ground and then making a menacing move toward another person who is telling him he is going to jail. "I didn't attack him, he attacked America". Now who is organizing an angry mob?

I had to websearch to find out that he's a democrat. I wish I lived in his distict so I could go to the meeting and yell at him. Folks,we've got two nasties heading our way. The health care thing and cap & trade. Re the health care thing us commoners can't trust leadership of either the democrat or republican parties. This is because of the vulgar amount of monies involved. Trillions of dollars. The people at the top cannot be trusted. They're all beholden to special interests.
