Tritons end season with second-place finish

The Tracy Tritons swim club took second place at the Mid-Valley Swim League championships Saturday at Pitman High in Turlock.

The Tritons scored 778.5 total team points, well behind the league champion Ripon Sea Lions, who collected 1,215 team points. The Sea Dogs, based in Hughson, were the Tritons’ closest match, with 743.5 team points for third place.

The Tritons’ Justin Phelps, swimming in the boys 13-14 division, was one of the top individual scorers as he took first place finishes in all three of his events, including the 100-yard freestyle, 59.04; 50 breaststroke, 32.49; and 50 freestyle, 24.04. He was one of 13 swimmers to sweep the first-place awards in all three of his or her events.

The Tritons’ Jennifer Porter was the top scorer in the 15-16 girls division with 24 total points, including first place finishes in both the 100 individual medley, 1:10.28, and the 50 backstroke, 32.54. She also took third in the 100 freestyle, 1:01.63.

Other Tritons swimmers to make the top five for total points in their divisions were:

Lindsay Price, 24 points, first, girls 7-8, 25 breaststroke 21.04; first, 25 freestyle, 15.88; third, 50 freestyle, 35.29

Gage Chavez, 23 points, first, boys 13-14, 50 butterfly, 28.47; second, 100 individual medley, 1:11.76; second, 50 backstroke, 31.76

Lindsey Phelps, 21 points, first, girls 17-18, 50 breaststroke, 38.26; second, girls 17-18, 100 individual medley, 1:16.95; fourth, 50 butterfly, 34.28.

Matt Van Niekerk, 19 points, second, boys 15-16, 100 freestyle, 55.94; second, boys 15-16, 100 breaststroke, 1:13.06; fourth, 50 freestyle, 25.45.

Heather Porter, 14 points, second, girls 13-14, 50 backstroke, 34.36; third, 50 freestyle, 28.42; fifth, 100 individual medley, 1:14.81.

Karel Kouda, 12 points, third, boys 11-12, 100 individual medley, 1:16.07; third, 50 butterfly, 32.73; fourth, 50 freestyle, 29.25.

Tritons swimmers to finish among the top three in individual races were:
