Green is entered in the 13-14 division in the 50-meter freestyle at the USA Swimming Western Zone Gold Summer Sectional Championship in Clovis. Her qualifying time at the Pacific Swimming Junior Olympic Championships in Concord on July 16 through 19 was the best finish among eight members from the Manteca Aquatics swim club. Four of those eight swimmers, including Green, come from Tracy.
Green, who will be a sophomore at Tracy High, finished 14th at the Junior Olympics, and her time of 28.93 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle was .06 of a second faster than the cutoff time, 28.99, to qualify for the sectional meet. She competes in that event again today in the section championship at Clovis North High School.
She also qualified for Pacific Swimming’s Far Western Long Course Championship Meet in San Jose, Wednesday through Aug. 2. The “long course” describes the 50-meter lanes where swimmers compete, as opposed to the 25-yard “short course,” where extra turns at the ends of the lanes impact final times.
Green also qualified for the Far Western meet with times of 1:05.36 in the 100 freestyle, 1:13.56 in the 100 backstroke, and 2:38.45 in the 200 backstroke. In the 200 backstroke, she finished in 11th place, the closest she came to making the final heat at the Junior Olympics.
Teammate James Thompson, swimming in the 13-14 boys, qualified for the Far Western meet in three of his eight events, including the 50 freestyle, 27.67; 100 freestyle, 1:00.41; and 200 freestyle, 2:10.05. His 200 freestyle finish put him in 14th place in that event.
Bradley McCain, swimming in the 13-14 boys, qualified for the Far Western meet in two of his five events, including the 50 freestyle, 27.92; and 100 freestyle, 1:00.09.
Tracy swimmer Devin Brown also competed in the Junior Olympics in the boys 15-16 200 backstroke.
