Breakfast Lions name new officers

Rick Hanson, a retired employee of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, is the new president of the Tracy Breakfast Lions Club.

He and other officers were installed June 13 during the club’s annual installation dinner at the Tracy Elks Lodge. Hanson presided over his first meeting of the 83-member service club Thursday.

Serving with him as club officers are Dennis Smith, first vice president, Don Bisbee, second vice president, Walter Gouveia, third vice president, Gene Birk, secretary, Tom Hawkins, treasurer, Roy Patterson, membership secretary, Mickey McGuire, bulletin editor, and Wes Huffman, tail twister.

Directors are Jim Meservy, Jack Woods, Nick Rivera, Jim Noah, Joe Perez, Ken Yasui, Dennis Noble, R.G. Fagin, Jim Dani, Roger Traina and Bill Hopman.

The Tracy Breakfast Lions Club meets Wednesday mornings at Home Town Buffet. It hosts the annual Fourth of July pancake breakfast and serves food at a number of fundraisers for Tracy organizations. During football season, Breakfast Lions staff refreshment booths at high school home games to raise funds for school athletic programs. The club sponsors the Lions International Youth Exchange program.

Hanson, who succeeds Mike Petrucelli as club president, is a native of Tracy who attended Modesto Junior College and served in the U.S. Army. He was a maintenance mechanic at Site 300 of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before retiring in 2003.In addition to his activities with the Breakfast Lions, Hanson is a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Tracy Elks Lodge and the Corvette Club.

He and his wife, Liz, have two grown children and a granddaughter.
