EDITOR,

I read the article “Pump problem closes public pool” (July 1, Tracy Press) about the pump at Joe Wilson Community Pool being shut down. I was saddened to see the Pinkie Phillips Aquatic Center at West High School was referred to as the “West High pool” on the cover and the “swimming pool at West High School” in the article.

While I realize it is important to note that the pool is at West High School so people know where it is located, I feel that by not using the pool’s proper name, we are disrespecting one of Tracy’s most highly revered residents, Pinkie Phillips.

After her many years of serving the community of Tracy as a swim coach and her dedicated service to Tracy’s afterschool programs and senior center, it would be respectful for us all to refer to the pool not as “West High Pool” or “the swimming pool at West High School,” but as the Pinkie Phillips Aquatic Center.

I can appreciate Ms. Phillips' contributions even though I've never had anything to do with her, but "highly revered"?

She isn't Siddhartha, FFS. Far too many other more pressing things to get steamed about out there.
