The Tracy Junior National All-Stars will have a shot at the Little League District 67 title after rebounding from Sunday’s loss to Tracy American and coming up through the losers bracket to win three in a row, including Friday’s 9-2 victory in a rematch between the two local teams at Salida Elementary School.

Tracy National had to overcome a 2-0 deficit to Tracy American in the fifth inning Friday. Tracy National did it with a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth and scored five more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the lead.

“They just bore down and lifted their focus at the plate,” Tracy National manager Mike Armstrong said of his players, adding that once they got a couple hits and took advantage of Tracy American mistakes, the National team had the momentum.

Jonah Wesely started on the mound for Tracy National. Oscar Moreno took over in the third inning, holding the American team to just one more run for the win.

“I had a little pressure, but our defense helped me get my confidence up,” Moreno said.

Tracy American’s Robert Toste scored first when he got a base hit in the second inning and came around on a passed ball and a stolen base. Tracy American made it 2-0 in the fifth when Nathan VanKatwyk singled and scored on Devon Denholm’s double.

But Tracy National rallied in the bottom of the fifth, as Isamel Gutierrez singled, Moreno was hit by a pitch, Jordan Kirby singled to drive in a run and passed balls and steals yielded three more runs.

The National team scored five more in the sixth on hits from Eddie Lopez, Erich Hutchinson, Gutierrez, Moreno and a double down the third-base line from Tyler Cox.

But the struggle for Tracy National isn’t over — the team must beat Weston Ranch twice to win the District 67 championship. Weston Ranch remains undefeated in the tournament after knocking Tracy American into the losers bracket Wednesday in the semifinals. Tracy National plays Weston Ranch at 10 a.m. today and could force a second game at 10 a.m. Sunday with a win.
