• 37.1 million:

Number of travelers expected to take a trip of 50 or more miles away from home this holiday weekend — a 1.9 percent decrease from 2008.

• 121 million: Number of Americans who own an American flag.

• 31: Number of patriotic-sounding places nationwide with “liberty” in their names. The most populous one is Liberty, Mo. Iowa has Libertyville, New Liberty, North Liberty and West Liberty.

• 12: Number of places that have “independence” in their name. The most populous of these is Independence, Mo.
