Twelve inmates at the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp are in isolation after being diagnosed with the swine flu, officials said.

Confirmation of the illness was made Tuesday afternoon, after public health officials tested inmates who had flu-like symptoms.

Inmates are being treated and have shown signs of improvements, said Shene Bowie, spokeswoman for the county’s public health department.

Otherwise, the jail is being run normally.

Swine flu cases have been found in 70 countries. In the U.S., 127 people have died from the disease and more than 27,000 people have become infected, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
