West High shortstop Riley Goulding and Tracy High pitcher Morgan Hayes were awarded Most Valuable Player honors Friday at the 19th annual Baseball-Softball All-Star Classic at San Joaquin Delta College.

The games are a gathering of the top graduating seniors from the Northern San Joaquin Valley and the foothills, and feature competition between North and South teams in both sports.

Goulding was awarded the $500 scholarship for the South All-Star team, which also included West players Ryan Devencenzi, Matt Fontaine and Tyler Shepherd. Goulding contributed a double in the second inning and led off the fifth with a home run to lead the South to a 13-10 win over the North, which include Tracy High players Kyle Hassna and Daniel Heefner.

Heefner also had a home run for the North, and Michael Rivera and Alex Escobar of St. Mary’s also contributed home runs for the South.

In the softball game, the North team, including Tracy’s Hayes, Sara Amorello and Stephanie Leles, lost 9-7 to the South. West High’s Brittaney Enterline was on the South team roster but wasn’t at the game.

Hayes led off for the North team with a double in the first and also pitched for the first four innings and struck out seven batters.

The South got a boost from a three-run homer from Edison’s Genevieve Reyna and a solo homer from Cheryl Freitas of St. Mary’s.
