Tracy Little League finished its local season this week with championship games in the age 9-10 Minor A division at Jefferson School on Monday and Tuesday.
The league advances the Minor American Yankees and the Minor National D’Backs to the Little League District 67 Tournament of Champions, which begins today at Jefferson School.
District TOCs are already under way for the Junior division. Teams include Tracy Little League’s Junior American Angels and Junior National Mets, plus the Red Sox from Mountain House Little League — all Junior teams play at Paul Weston Park in Stockton this week, with the championship game Sunday afternoon.
In the Major division, where games are also under way, the Tracy Little League sends the National Astros and American Mariners to play at Hafley School in Manteca this week. Mountain House Little League also has a team in that tournament. The championship game in that division will be Saturday morning.
Some of the results of this week’s games include:
Minor Division
D’Backs 9, Padres 2
After the Padres beat the D’Backs in the second round of the local TOC last week, the D’Backs came back up through the losers bracket to beat the Padres on Monday and force a second game Tuesday.
The D’Backs started Tuesday’s game at Jefferson School with a five-run rally in the first inning, sparked by base hits from Justin Schober, Jet Barrett and Ricky Anderson, with Adam Russo also knocking one in. Russo drove in another in the fifth, and Angelo Kandah also batted in a run. Russo also pitched 51/3 innings for the D’Backs and struck out 10 batters.
The Padres scored when Sean Syester got a hit in the third and Joseph Lomas batted him in, and in the fifth when Brandon Hernandez got a base hit and scored on a passed ball.
D’Backs 3, Padres 2
The D’Backs forced a second Minor National championship game with this win Monday.
The D’Backs’ Kandah and Isaac Anaya drew walks in the top of the second inning, and Anderson and Schober batted them in.
The Padres responded in the bottom of the second with single from Lomas and a double from Ryan Ott to score the run. Drew Reddick got another base hit for the Padres in the fourth, and Jeremy Hernandez drove him in to tie it at 2-2.
The D’Backs’ Schober scored the winning run in the top of the fifth when he hit one past the Padres outfielders and rounded the bases to score.
Yankees 4, White Sox 2
The Minor American Yankees won their championship game Monday.
The Yankees started with a double from Daniel Sandoval in the first, and he came in on Hayley Nunes’ base hit. Aaron Kappeler got a hit and scored for the Yankees in the third, and Korey Reyes slammed a triple in the fifth to drive in Matthew Wootten. Kristein Reyes also got a base hit, and Marion Gigliotti drove him in the sixth.
The White Sox scored both of their runs in the fifth inning when Mason Stevenson led off with a walk, Steven Antunez doubled and Lorenzo Valencia got a base hit.
Major Division
Astros 7, Phillies 1
The Major National Astros took the division championship Saturday morning with a seventh-inning rally Saturday morning at Jefferson School.
The Astros and Phillies were tied 1-1 going into the seventh inning in a pitching duel that had the Phillies’ Alex Nunez throwing 14 strikeouts in six innings, while the Astros’ Jared Finney went all seven and collected 13 strikeouts.
The Phillies faced the top of the Astros’ batting order in the seventh, and Braedon Oki delivered with a leadoff triple. His teammates kept the six-run rally going as Jordan Dewitt singled, Isaiah Blue doubled and Dakota Delbridge homered. Also driving in runs were Alex Haines, Matthew Dewitt and Tyler Briggs.
Mariners 9, A’s 0
The Major American Mariners won the Major American division Saturday afternoon at Jefferson School as Dylan Von Hartman pitched a shutout game, allowing one hit and struck out seven batters. His team also delivered three home runs, including one each from Von Hartman, Steven Schreppel and Chris Ramon. Von Hartman batted in two runs, Schreppel drove in three and Ramon also drove in three.
Junior Division
Angels 5, A’s 1 The Junior American Angels won in a second rematch Saturday after they lost to the A’s on June 6, came back with a win Thursday. Further details were not available.
Mets vs. D’Backs
The Junior National Mets won their rematch Saturday after the D’Backs came up through the losers bracket and took a win last week. The of Saturday’s game was not available.
Early District 67 games
Two Little League District 67 tournaments of champions started this past weekend, with the Junior division at Paul Weston Park in Stockton and the Majors at Hafley School in Manteca. The Minor League District TOC begins Wednesday at Jefferson School.
Major Division
Mariners 7, Lathrop Giants 0
The Tracy Major American Mariners, 16-3 this season, started off the District 67 TOC with another shutout win Sunday at Hafley School in Manteca, their fourth in a row in tournament play.
Cameron Hoff struck out eight batters over five innings to lead the Mariners to a 7-0 win over Lathrop. Backing him up at the plater were Steven Schreppel, who hit a two-run homer, Issac Sandoval with two doubles and Andrew Huerta and Chris Ramon, who also contributed base hits.
Junior Division
Spreckels Bulldogs 7, Mountain House Red Sox 3
The Red Sox from Mountain House Little League’s Junior division lost its first game of the District 67 tournament of champions Saturday afternoon at Paul Weston Park in Stockton. Zach Johnson of Mountain House pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs. He also had an RBI triple, and Jared Dalrymple had two base hits for Mountain House.
Mountain House Red Sox 19, Patterson 3
The Red Sox came back in the losers bracket for a win over Patterson and will move on to the second round Thursday at Paul Weston Park in Stockton. Jared Dalrymple pitched a complete game for the Red Sox and contributed a double at the plate. Jordan Dalrymple had two base hits include a double. The Red Sox’s third inning rally included hits from Bubba Searle, Josh Searle, Giovanni Callendar and Kevin Nguyen.
National Mets, American Angels
The Tracy National Mets beat the Tracy American Angels in their second-round game Sunday at Paul Weston Park in Stockton after the Angels won their first round game against Lathrop on Saturday. The Mets played again on Tuesday. Scores and statistics were not available.
