Tracy Futbol Club Warriors under-10 boys soccer team went 3-1 and won the championship game in their division in this past weekend’s El Dorado Summer 2009 Soccer Shoot-out Tournament in Sacramento.

The Warriors had to bounce back from a Saturday 3-2 loss to the host team, the El Dorado Crew to take 8-0 wins over both Santa Rosa United and Folsom FC to make it to Sunday’s championship game against Modesto.

In a rough game, the Warriors stayed focused to claim a 3-2 win.

Modesto scored first on a free kick, and the Warriors tied it 1-1 midway through the first before Modesto scored another to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Warriors tied it at 2-2 midway through the second half, and in front of a fired-up crowd netted the game-winning goal on a free kick that curved into the top corner.

Philpott takes second win of season

Tracy driver Justin Philpott captured his second win of the 2009 racing season Saturday at Stockton 99 Speedway.

Philpott started at the head of the 13-car pack in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Models and held on for duration of the 50-lap race.

Mike Beeler of Salida stayed in hot pursuit through three cautions and a red flag to finish second, and Justin’s father, David Philpott, also challenged for the lead and finished in third place.

Justin’s cousin, Ryan Philpott, was caught in a four-car pile up on the 22nd lap and ended up in the back after that. He eventually battled his way back to finish sixth.

Scott Winters of Tracy fought from the fifth starting position to win the 30-lap Grand American Modified race, his third win in a row and his sixth for the season.
