Local Roundup: Cougars take win, tie

The California Cougars under-14 girls soccer team remained undefeated and in first place in the NorCal Premier Spring League. The Cougars defeated the Stockton Storm, 4-3, at McNair High in Stockton and tied the Marin Thunderbirds, 0-0, at Centennial Park in Vacaville this past weekend.

Against Stockton, Grace Cabri of Tracy scored two goals, and Stephanie Pawek of Tracy scored one and had an assist. Teammate Fiona Kennedy also scored and had an assist, and Samantha Stallings had an assist.

Against Marin, goalkeeper Victoria Case of Tracy posted the shutout behind the outstanding defensive play of Katia Gaytan, Taylor Long, Ashley Longmire, Kristina Miles and Bailey Smith.

The Cougars resume league play Wednesday against Manteca FC and begin tournament play June 20 in the prestigious US Club Regionals in Modesto and Turlock.
