West High grads earn scholarships Neda Dastgheyb and Danielle Rivera, recent graduates of West High School, have received scholarships from Health Plan of San Joaquin. These were two of 20 scholarships awarded to students who wish to pursue medical careers. Neda earned $2,500, and Danielle was awarded $1,000.
Caltrans has also offered West High grad Matthew Bowen a $1,000 Future in Transportation scholarship. The annual scholarship is given to a student who shows interest in a transportation-related career. Matthew will attend the University of California, Berkeley, in the fall and major in business administration. He graduated with a 4.5 GPA.
Tracy Art League gives two scholarships Chelsea Childers, a Stein High grad, and Shannon French, from West High, were honored with $500 scholarships from the Tracy Art League. The girls, who both have an artistic bent, will attend San Joaquin Delta College in the fall. Chelsea hopes to do mural art in the future, while Shannon wants to teach at an art academy someday.
Local student graduates from Mary Washington University Leighton Mackenzie Scott graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. (50 miles south of Washington, D.C.) on May 9. The commencement ceremony, attended by about 5,000 friends, relatives and graduates, was on the lawn of Ball Circle in the center of the Fredericksburg campus.
