Fishing derby

The San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation Department and Delta Fly Fishers will host their 25th annual Fishing Derby today at Oak Grove Regional Park at Eight Mile Road and Interstate 5 in Stockton.

Kids age 15 and younger are welcome to fish for free at the park’s 10-acre lake. The derby will begin at 6:15 a.m., registration closes at 10 a.m., and the last weigh-in will be at 12:30 p.m.

About 1,500 pounds of catfish will be planted in the lake prior to the fishing derby. Prizes will be given out in three age groups: 8 and under, 9 to 12 and 13 to 15.

There is no registration fee, but those ages 16 and over who want to fish will need to pay a $3 fishing permit fee, and a $5 parking fee will also be charged. Participants must bring their own fishing equipment.

Kimball basketball camp

Kimball High School basketball coaches will lead a basketball camp the week of June 8 through 12 at Williams Middle School, 1600 Tennis Lane.

Coach Tina Afan will lead a camp for girls who plan to attend Kimball High next year from 3 to 5 p.m. each afternoon, and Justin Gregory will lead a camp for incoming boys from 5 to 7 p.m. each evening.

Cost of $50 includes a camp T-shirt.

Keena Turner Golf Tournament

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy will host the 14th annual Keena Turner Golf Tournament on June 22 at Ruby Hills Golf Club, in Pleasanton.

The cost of $350 per golfer or $1,400 for a foursome includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, plus lunch, no-host cocktails and admission to the dinner and auction afterward.

The club also seeks sponsors, including chances to play with Turner’s San Francisco 49er teammates and other celebrity golfers.

Tickets to just the dinner and auction are $80 per person, and auction prizes include a trip for two to a road game with the San Francisco 49ers, including seats on the team plane, a room at the team’s hotel and field passes at the game.

Softball league

Big League Dreams sports park, 1077 Milo Candini Drive, in Manteca, has begun registration for men’s, women’s and coed softball leagues. Leagues for all levels play all week at the sports park’s replica baseball stadiums.

Tracy Futbol Club boys under-14 soccer team seeks players for its Gold competitive team. The team is open to players born between August 1995 and July 1995.

The Tracy Storm girls 13-and-under travel basketball team seeks players for the 2009-10 season. The team is open to girls entering fifth through eighth grades.

British soccer camp

The Tracy Parks and Community Services Department and Challengers British Soccer Camp will host two weeklong sessions this summer, June 22 to 26 and July 13 to 17, at the Tracy Sports Complex, corner of 11th Street and Crossroads Drive.

This is one of more than 2,000 camps that Challenger hosts for more than 100,000 players between the ages of 4 and 18. Camps include foot skill development, tactical practices and tournament-style plays. The camps include lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship.

Daily sessions and costs include: First Kicks, 9 to 10 a.m., ages 3 to 4, $87; Mini Soccer, 10 a.m. to noon, ages 4 to 5, $122; half-day, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 6 to 16, $145; Golden Goal Camp, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., ages 6 to 16, $36. Teams are also welcome to attend and prepare for the fall season.

The cost includes a camp T-shirt, soccer ball, soccer poster and performance evaluation. Those who sign up 45 days ahead also receive a British soccer replica jersey.

Volleyball clinic

The women’s volleyball team at San Joaquin Delta College will host its 11th annual Volleyball Clinic for high school players and incoming freshmen who plan to try out for their high school teams.

The three-day clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 23, 24 and 25, at the Blanchard Gym on the Delta College campus, 5151 Pacific Ave., in Stockton. Cost is $75 per player, and those who registered by Friday will receive a T-shirt.

Wolf Pack football camp

The dates for the 2009 Junior Wolf Pack Football Camp have been set for June 29 to July 2. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14 and will be at Steve Lopez Stadium at West High, 1775 W. Lowell Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. every evening.

Cost of the camp is $40 and includes a Nike camp shirt, four days of instruction by the West High football coaches, a barbecue on the last day, and free admission to a West High varsity game during the fall 2009 season.
