Lakhwinder Singh, a member of the West High School Class of 2012, has begun a three-week deployment for language and cultural immersion training as an Army ROTC cadet.
The deployment, which follows a week of training at Fort Knox, Ky., involves helping with Army missions — such as building community projects or teaching English to children — while immersed in the local language and culture of a partner nation.
Singh is a student at California State University, Fresno.
Airman completes basic training
U.S. Air Force Airman Dyllon Michael Manown, who graduated from high school in 2013, has completed basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.
The airman’s training included military discipline, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
He is the son of Nadine and Jason Manown of Tracy.
