Services are Friday for Vivian Marie (Hoover) Myers Shaffer, 93, a longtime Tracy resident who retired from H.J. Heinz Co. She died July 24 in Ripon.

Mrs. Shaffer was born May 6, 1921, in Lindsay, Okla., and had lived in Tracy for 72 years. She worked as a weighmaster at the Heinz factory during the tomato season and retired in 1976. She also worked at Copper Cat Drive-in and Costco and ran the Standard Service Station on 11th Street during the 1940s.

Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1537 Ladies Auxiliary, Rebecca Lodge and Tracy Community Church. She volunteered for Tracy Interfaith Ministries and was a Pink Lady at the hospital.

Survivors include six children, Richard Myers, and his wife, Janice, of Escalon, Lonnie Myers, and his wife, Diana, of Brentwood, Donna Myers-Evans of Las Vegas, Kent Myers, and his wife, Judy, of Manteca, Annette Myers-Shaffer-Almanza, and her husband, Jess, of Lodi and Janice Shaffer-Smith of Camano Island, Wash.; two sisters, Frances Hoover-Bradley of Albuquerque, N.M., and Junita Hoover-Goldston of Parma, Idaho; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her first husband, Houston Arlie Myers, who died in 1962; her second husband, Richard Albert Shaffer, who died in 2011; a daughter, Karen Shaffer-Henry; her parents, John Wesley Hoover and Bertie Estelle Powell; and eight siblings, Lila Ruth Hoover-Crawford, Thelma Hoover-Poff, Stephen “Mike” Hoover, Daryl “Pat” Hoover, John Hoover Jr., Bonita Hoover-Goldston, Paul Hoover and Dale Hoover.

Friday’s funeral service begins at 11 a.m. at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., Burial will be in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road, and a reception will follow at Chez Shari, 305 N. Union Road, in Manteca.
