The office of the Tracy City Clerk has confirmed that three members of the City Council have either filed or are preparing to file papers for the November election.

The filing window to run for city office opened July 14 and will run until 5 p.m. Aug. 8.

On Tuesday, the clerk’s office confirmed that Mayor Pro Tem Michael Maciel had filed his paperwork to run for mayor. Mayor Brent Ives is leaving the position, his tenure ended by term limits.

Former councilman and business owner Ray Morelos had obtained the paperwork from the clerk’s office to run for mayor but had not yet filed it.

Incumbent councilmen Robert Rickman and Charles Manne have picked up the paperwork to run for City Council again but had not filed those papers as of Tuesday.

The election for all open seats on the Tracy City Council is Nov. 4. The Press will sponsor candidate forums for city offices before the election.

I guess my last comment was deleted by the TP Editor. He must not like the fact that Maciel doesn't have any support from the City Employees, The TPOA, or the TFFA in his bid for Mayor.

I would like to see how he fairs in a head to head race with Mr. Morelos as I believe Mr. Morelos has a much broader base of supporters than Maciel does. Maybe that will help to deflate Maciel's ego a little bit.

Why would anyone with a brain want council members, who have oversight over negotiations of pay and benefits to the fireman and police and other city employees, to have their full endorsement?

I understand that seedym but keep in mind that Maciel used to be one of them and they still don't support him. It speaks volumes to his ability to work well with others.

If you want to know about a persons personality and motivations ask the people they work, or in this case, worked with. They can tell you a lot about his mindset.

Unions ALWAYS support a democrat. Especially if he sponsored the democrat's meetings in Tracy for decades.

We are just off the phone with the interim city clerk: this is not exactly correct. The filing deadline is Aug. 8 and there is no extension.

It's a bit of a nuance, but the city policy reads there will be an extension in the event an "eligible" incumbent decides not to run. Mayor Ives is not eligible, thus no extension.

The only thing I really know about Ray Morelos is that he isn't Mike Maciel.

With only those two names on the ballot, I'd easily vote for the guy I know very little about over the guy we all know too much about.

Couldn't agree more Hahahahahaha. Someone should start a campaign and raise money under the title; "Anyone But Maciel".

In my opinion, this guy is the worst possible choice for Mayor. I think he's inept and half-vast. For me I would rather have a Mayor who is a vast leader than a Mayor who is a half-vast leader.

Why does a Kalifornia Highway Patrol officer proclaim that an intersection is NOT a dangerous road, after someone is killed in a car accident?

What gives the officer the right to deem the safety of our loved ones as less important?

So every roadway that someone has ever died on should be considered extra dangerous? Wow.

Does your mommy make you wear a helmet and pads at night in case you have a scary dream and fall out of your crib?
