According to Les Garcia, spokesman for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, workers were digging a trench at a home on the 12000 block of West Larch Road when they uncovered human bones around 10 a.m. June 26.
Garcia said the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office investigated the remains that morning and sent photographs to an anthropologist. It was concluded that the bones were Native American, he said, and county officials informed the heritage commission.
An official at the commission has verified that the group was contacted and planned to look into the discovery. No additional information was provided.
