Tracy Police Sgt. Trevin Freitas said at 10:43 a.m. Thursday police received a call from the San Joaquin County Sheriff department that Tracy resident Ruben Beltran, 24, had stolen a white Dodge Ram pickup truck with a lift gate and was possibly on his way home.
Freitas said Tracy police officers arrested Beltran and booked him into the county jail early Thursday morning. Freitas did not know what Beltran had been arrested for.
Beltran allegedly stole the truck from somewhere near the jail shortly after his release Thursday.
A California Highway Patrol airplane patrolling the area spotted the truck and followed it through Tracy to Beltran’s home in the 2500 block of Christy Street where he parked it in the driveway.
The CHP airplane could see Beltran in the backyard of the home. When officers surrounded the residence, Beltran fled, hopping over backyard fences.
Freitas said Beltran was taken into custody on O’Neil Court.
The pickup truck was retuned to the registered owner.
