A final showdown between the Tracy Babe Ruth Minor League Orioles and Giants ended with a 12-6 win for the Orioles on Tuesday, making them the division champions for Tracy Babe Ruth’s regular season.
The Orioles’ Elijah Quintana blasted a two-run homer in the third inning to overcome the Giants’ 5-3 lead. Other big hits for the Orioles included a double for Devan Thompkins, who also got the win as the starting pitcher. Gavin Moran had two base hits.
Big hitters for the Giants included Emilio De La Paz, two doubles, and Jareth Franco, two base hits.
Tuesday’s game at Tracy Sports Complex was the teams’ third matchup in the local championship tournament, which began with eight teams on May 20. The Orioles beat the Giants earlier in the bracket, but the Giants forced a second championship game when they beat the Orioles 10-2 on June 5.
Leading the way for the Giants in that game was Christian Rodriguez, who was the winning pitcher and hit a triple and a double. Jareth Franco also tripled and doubled for the Giants, and Eric Willis singled and doubled.
Majors: Orioles 9, Cubs 2
The Tracy Babe Ruth Major Orioles won their local division title 9-2 over the Cubs on June 5 at the Tracy Sports Complex.
Jacob Creasman’s two hits for the Orioles included a home run. He batted in three runs and was also the winning pitcher. Jajuan Tucker also had two hits for the Orioles.
Caden Joseph led the Cubs with three base hits for the day.
The Orioles took a loss to the Cubs on May 22 in the second round of the tournament, but they fought they way back to the championship game, winning four games in a row, including a 10-2 win over the Orioles on June 3 to force a second championship game.
