The Kimball High Jaguars cleared the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II boys tennis playoffs with their 5-4 victory against the visiting Central Catholic High Raiders of Modesto on Tuesday.
The Jaguars (13-1 Valley Oak League) won the No. 1 through No. 5 singles matches. Sophomore Garrett Chun won his match 6-2, 6-2; junior Nick Reilley won 6-2, 6-0; senior Mark Dalupan won 6-0, 6-0; sophomore Ivan Acosta won 2-6, 6-4, 7-5; and junior Blake Howerton won his match 6-3, 6-4.
Central Catholic won the No. 6 singles match and all three doubles matches, two of which went to three sets, including tiebreakers.
Kimball will host Mira Loma of Capital Athletic League on Monday in the quarterfinals.
Oak Ridge 9, West 0
The Wolf Pack tennis team (9-1 Tri-City Athletic League) is finished with the season after losing at home Tuesday to Oak Ridge High of the Delta River League in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I team playoffs.
Coach Christine Toon said that she had to rearrange the team’s strength ladder because some of West’s players were missing, including No. 2 singles player Peter Creasma, a senior, and No. 3 singles player Alex Xu, a junior.
Tokay 5, Tracy 4
The Tracy High tennis team lost its first-round playoff match Monday at Tokay High in Lodi. Tokay won four of the six singles matches and one of the three doubles matches.
In singles, Tracy senior Andrew Canlas beat Albert Lee 7-6, 1-6, 7-6 and senior Nico Cady beat David Carmichael 6-1, 3-6. In doubles, Tracy junior Michael Yamada and sophomore Eric Lourwerens beat Jacob Black and Casey Myers 6-4, 6-3, and senior Chris Kennedy and freshman Amal Thommil beat Arturo Alvarez and Isidro Ochoa 7-5, 4-6.
