West High’s track and field team started the Tri-City Athletic League season with wins at all levels against the McNair Eagles on April 10 at West’s Steve Lopez Stadium.

West’s varsity boys beat McNair 96-30, winning 13 of the 16 events.

Sophomore Dion Collier won both the 100-meter dash (10.91 seconds) and the 200 meters (22.89), as well as the long jump (20 feet, 8½ inches). Junior Elias Rodriquez won both the 110 hurdles (16.89) and the 300 hurdles (45.41), and Lautaime Alailefaleula won both the discus (138-9) and the shot put (46-0)

West’s varsity girls beat McNair 86.5-39.5, winning 11 of the 16 events.

Multiple winners include sophomore Julia Flohr in the 800 (2:43.40), 1,600 (6:01) and 3,200 (13:17); junior Kyra McIntyre in the 200 (27.94) and 400 (1:07.10); senior Lia Burrell in the long jump (16-5) and triple jump (32-6); and senior Alyssa Duncan in the discus (88-9) and shot put (26-10).

West’s freshman-sophomore boys beat McNair 115-20, winning all but one event. Sophomore Marcel Dancy won four events: the 400 (56.10), 200 (23.68), long jump (18-8) and triple jump (40-8.5).

West’s freshman-sophomore girls beat McNair 103-29, losing only one event. The team’s top athlete was freshman Zaria Ealy, winner of the 100 hurdles (19.03), 300 hurdles (54.83) and high jump (4-4).

Tracy vs. Bear Creek

The Bulldogs went on the road for their second San Joaquin Athletic Association meet on April 10.

A win for Bear Creek in three of the four divisions and a tie for the freshman-sophomore girls teams put Tracy’s varsity teams and frosh-soph boys at 1-1 in league duals and the frosh-soph girls at 1-0-1.

But Tracy coach Jay Fishburn said he doesn’t expect the scores, as posted on Athletic.net, to stand. Fishburn said that Tracy’s varsity teams originally had the win, and the posted scores differ from Tracy High’s recorded results. He said an appeal with the league is pending.

According to results posted on Athletic.net, Bear Creek’s varsity boys beat Tracy 69-66, with each team winning eight of the 16 events. The top athlete for Tracy was junior sprinter Nate Jones, winner of both the 100 (11.04) and the 200 (22.18).

The Bruins won in the varsity girls division 69-57. Tracy athletes won five events, including first-place finishes by junior Kaitlin Spencer in both the 1,600 (5:45.76) and the 3,200 (12:40.29).

Bear Creek’s freshman-sophomore boys beat Tracy 75-53. Tracy won five events, and freshman Jose Cuevas won both the high jump (5-2) and the pole vault (9-6).

The freshman-sophomore girls contest was a 67-67 tie, with Tracy winning seven of the 16 events. Freshman Julissa Vargas was Tracy’s top athlete, taking first in the 100 (13.70), the 100 hurdles (20.15) and the 300 hurdles (57.56).
