Your Voice: Planes are too close to homes

EDITOR,

I read Dave Olmstead’s article ((Your Voice, April 25, “Aircraft engine noise unacceptable”) and totally agree with him. I’ve read that the stunt pilots are to stay in a certain air space, but living close to Valpico Road, I know for a fact that they have been way too close to us to be legal.

It’s frightening (and the noise annoying) to watch them so close to residential areas and schools. You just hope they know what they’re doing and that their equipment doesn’t fail.

Every time I read an article in the paper regarding a single-engine plane that has had a mishap and landed on a house or in a school yard, I’m reminded that it could happen here.

I enjoy watching the airplanes and air-balloons when riding my bicycle in Tracy, CA.

By the way...

The webserver is just part of the problem. The client also runs slow becuase of the webpage design. You should try loading the TracyPress.com website on a cellphone/pda/etc and see how long that takes.

Anyway, the delays cause the "post comment" button to be available to the user longer than normal. And when that happens - the user can sometimes click it twice - sometimes resulting in the double post.

;)

Folks, sorry about the double posting here. I have noticed that some of you have also commented ya have trouble like this at times. Guess the Tracy Press will eventually solve this problem. Still, it seems to be better than it was so we should be thankful for that.

Must be havin trouble today so I'll try it one more time.

Why in deed. Sounds like buyers remorse and a feeble attempt by some people to gain sympathy for their dumb mistake of buying a home next door to an airport that's been there for over 80 years.

You know, the ole, "I can't understand why people hear me whine about my dumb decision to buy next to a noisy airport and get upset when I want them to fix the problem I got myself into," routine.

Don't think I would suggest reducing the national speed limit to 25 mph even as a joke. Gotta be careful what ya ask for cus ya just might get it. Sure as I am sittin here typin this message there is some joker that thinks it's a good idea.

Why in deed. Sounds like a case of buyer's remorse an a failure to stand accountable for yer own dumb mistakes. You know, the ole, "Why don't people listen to me whine about how I was dumb enough to buy a house next next door to a noisy airport and I want someone else to be inconvienced because of my mistake," routine.

Wouldn't suggest suggesting lowering the national speed limit to 25 MPH though. We both know it could never be inforced because most people drive over the posted speed limit anyways. But worse than that, some joker probably thinks it's a good idea. As with many things, ya gotta be careful what ya ask for cus ya just might get it.

Course I know yer just joking around but we both know that the are people who think that way else they wouldn't be yammering on and on all day about a problem they actually cause for themselves.

Why are people so paranoid about the airplanes flying overhead? You're far more likely to be involved in an accident/injured with a drunk driver.

Why not have the nation reduce the national speed limit to 25mph and enforce it? It would save millions of $ in gas and 10's of thousands of lives.

It's not uncommon or unreasonable to see low flying aircraft near an airport is it? The city is lucky to have an airport IMO! The next time you fly commercial, just remember your pilots may have been inspired and learned to fly in your community.

As for the noise, have you ever been near SFO airport? Jumbo jets take off right over South city and San Bruno every day. What's the difference with our airport, why all the fuss folks?

On a recent bike trip on the California Aquaduct Bicycle Path off of Corral Hollow Rd. I noticed the majority of plane traffic to be away from Tracy city. As a courtesy? Thanks!

I also noticed these planes are not as loud as those at the SJ airport, which is noisier because of jets.

Look, the airport was there first. You knew it was there when you moved into your house. "Houses were allowed to be built to close to airport". That is true. But you didn't have to buy it either. THe airport is not going anywhere so stop your whining and MOVE.

Do ya honestly think that someone gettin paid a commission to sell a house is really all that conserned about the people buying the house?

Would that it be true. But lookin only at the dollar sort of brings out the worst element in people and they are apt to sell their own souls to make a fast buck.

Use ta have a sayin for that, "Let the buyer beware."

If ya don't take care of yerself ya really can't expect anyone else ta do it for ya.

The title of this story is wrong! It should say,"Houses were allowed to be built to close to airport". I want to know what the real estate people were telling people ? Did they know there was an airport or was it omitted intentionally?

Our airport was here long before the houses were built.

I doubt there is any more concern that the airport will never expand to handle 747's and DC-10's?

These letters appear in the paper every year before/after the Airshow and serve to bring attention (and hopefully more business) to the airport?

Yes, CN, I'm not surprised that candidate didn't win the mayoral election. I felt there was no platform there. Saying to expand the airport. Then saying "not now"? Obviously didn't convince me there was any plan behind the rhetoric?

Anyway, the airport was there long ago, as it was started by the American Legion. When you drive into the airport there is a sign attesting to the American Legion's role in creating the airport.

Many people are not aware, but the airport, which currently does not have a tower is actually closer to a Business Park than homes.

Also, many people don't realize, but the City of Tracy, CA owns two airports:

1.) The American Legion Airport (south of Linne and Tracy Blvd)

2.) The other airport is the New Jerasulem Airport.

If any airport were to expand I would think it would be the New Jerasulem Airport. Wouldn't that also result in fewer letters to the Tracy Press?

Sorry, tired, too many patients in emergency room with non-swine(H1N1)flu!!

Should have read instead of this:

"Now, why would anyone want to a house next to the airport"

Now, why would anyone want to BUY a house next to the airport"....

Thanks.

I would say this supports the argument why the airport should not be expanded in the future??

Had wondered about those canals when the talk of expansion was discussed under the former Mayoral candidate ...latest answer was ...."not now".

I would think, "not ever"??

Keep it family friendly.

Now, why would anyone want to a house next to the airport is beyond my comprehension...

Also, it stated in previous articles that it takes place over the weekend? Just the weekends?

Better than weekdays?

Get together with your friends who are disturbed by these noises and plan nice day of field trip??? To the airport to watch them practice?

Might be fun to be part of these events?

If not, I hear Lake Tahoe is nice.

There aren't many homes south of the airport.

The Hudson River landing is something I thought about when reading about safety of pilot training in the above letter.

Thanks for the awareness of the number of air passengers above us - overhead.
