Every 15 Minutes, the annual "fatal car crash" to teach kids about the dangers of drunken driving, was performed today at Tracy High school's football stadium.

The event is held either at West or Tracy High school and simulates a fatal drunk driving accident.

Leading up to the “accident” that’s staged on the stadium’s track, a student is pulled out of class every 15 minutes while their obituary is read to classmates.

It ends with the “fatal” crash, which has a CHP helicopter arrive to airlift one of the victims away. On Thursday, there will be a video of the event along with speakers during an assembly to discuss mock crash. Glenn Moore/Tracy Press

I'm convinced Lori Martin (LAM75, I assume) has saved some lives with her continued speaking out against drunk driving. She deserves Tracy's thanks for her courage and fighting spirit.

I don't know if anyone will read this, but the meeting of Every 15 Minutes on Wednesday night was a success. I was one of the speakers and brought both tears and laughter. The students saw another side to drinking alcohol. Alcohol is not all fun and games and that joy is definitely ruined when you decide to drive intoxicated. They got to see the effects of s vtsh on a person first hand. They have learned.

This program was intense and emotional. The students at Tracy High were fortunate to have it this year. The hope is that the message hits home in some way or another. As a parent whose child was involved in the program I say thanks to all who put in their time and effort to bring a reality check to the THS student body.

I know of a lot of adults who could use this course.

I lost a very good friend in 1976 from a drunk driver. It's sad but I'll bet everyone can look at their high school yearbook and find several classmates they have lost because of this tragedy.

I urge teens to realize this can be reality. This scene is not a joke. Notice the danger now and prevent it from happening in the future. Lori
