Nearly 1,000 people will come together in Tracy this weekend for the annual Relay For Life, a 24-hour walkathon benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Tracy’s relay starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tracy High School, 315 E. 11th St. The walk opens with a lap for cancer survivors, who will be dressed in purple. From there, any and all teams send their members out onto the track.

To keep things fun, certain laps have themes, such as a beach party, swing dancing and a scavenger hunt. The relay quiets down at night, as the track is lit up by numerous luminaria bags, decorated in memory or in honor of those who have batted cancer. Participants will wake up Sunday, with yoga and kickboxing sessions available.

So far, more than 90 teams have combined to donate more than $60,000 for cancer research.

There is still time to join, and money can be donated until Saturday, the first day of the relay. For a detailed schedule of events, flip back to Page 6.
