Mountain House High School’s athletic department has embarked on its search for coaches.

Athletic Director LeVinia Woods said that six applicants for football coach have expressed interest in leading the Mustang team in its inaugural season this fall, and more could apply by the Feb. 28 closing date. Friday is also the closing date for volleyball, boys soccer, girls tennis, girls golf, water polo and cross-country coaches. The high school has posted listings on

Woods said that coaches need not be teachers at Mountain House High, but they do need to be certified as coaches by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

“Ideally we would like them to be teachers, but the teachers (at Mountain House High) haven’t been hired yet,” Woods said.

She added that the Lammersville Unified School District Board of Education must approve the coaches, but a date for the decision hasn’t been set.

“I would like to get coaches in place by mid-March,” Woods said.
