Mary Ellen Jones, 74, of Tracy, died unexpectedly Sunday at her home. A graveside service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., is handling arrangements. Contributions in Mrs. Jones’ name may be sent to Valley Community Baptist Church, 903 S. Corral Hollow Road, Tracy, CA 95376.

Joann Marie Phillips, 52, a 20-year Tracy resident, died Jan. 28 in Stanford. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Martin of Tours Church, 200 O’Connor Drive, in San Jose. Lima-Campagna-Alameda Mission Chapel, 600 S. Second St., in San Jose, is handling arrangements.

The Rev. Roy G. Capps, 70, a Tracy native, died Jan. 17 when he fell at his Tracy home. Services will be private, and burial will be in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., is handling arrangements.

Byron Eugene “Gene” Bassett, 75, of Monterey County, died Dec. 31 of pneumonia resulting from a July 23 stroke. Mr. Bassett graduated from Tracy High School and attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., retiring after 20 years in the U.S. Army. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, 404 Lincoln Ave., in Salinas. Struve and Laporte Funeral Home, 41 W. San Luis St., in Salinas, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions in Mr. Bassett’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Northern California, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817; or to the First United Methodist Church, 404 Lincoln St., Salinas, CA 93901.
