Wrestling: Kimball splits against visiting VOL opponents

The Kimball High wrestling team split a pair of Valley Oak League dual matches at home Wednesday, Jan. 22, taking a 52-24 team win over Weston Ranch and a 47-28 loss to Oakdale. 

The outcome put the Jaguars team at 3-2 in VOL duals.

Top individual performers included sophomore David Gonzalez, wrestling in the 132-pound weight class. He beat his Oakdale and Weston Ranch opponents on second-round pins.

Junior Reese Chew (145) pinned his opponent from Oakdale in the first round and beat his Weston Ranch opponent on a 16-3 major decision. Senior Matt Cooper (220) scored a 12-1 major decision over his Oakdale opponent and a 6-2 decision against the wrestler from Weston Ranch.

Also winning against Weston Ranch were sophomore Matthew Jaurique (120) with an 8-7 decision, senior Michael Stephens (138) with a first-period pin and senior Nathan Kountz (182) with a second-period pin.

Kimball won four more by forfeit.

Weston Ranch won one by pin, one by injury default and two by forfeit.

Against Oakdale, Kimball won two matches by forfeit, and Oakdale won three by pin, three by forfeit, one by technical fall and two by decision.
