YLI prepares for grand president’s visit, dinner

Members of the Young Ladies Institute at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church are collecting donations toward their Grand President’s Program, which supports the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Cori Price, daughter of club president Debra Grinstead, plans to run a marathon in support of the society in June, representing the St. Bernard’s YLI, the St. Anthony’s Club of Tracy and YLI chapters in Manteca and Escalon.

Reservations are due Feb. 1 for a traditional Mexican dinner in celebration of an official visit by Grand President Patricia McGuire on Feb. 12.

The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in the church’s small hall. Cost is $11 each. Members should give reservations to Eva Gonsalves, chairwoman, at 835-3702.

During a meeting immediately after the meal, the club will report its contributions to McGuire’s program.

Club members are also planning a bus trip to Black Oak Casino on Feb. 22. Tickets are $20 each. For information, call Myrtis Hux, 346-6669.

The monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. March 12 will include a simplicity meal. Members who plan to participate should call Grinstead, 835-6185, or Hux and take a soup bowl.

Members participated in a homemade cookie exchange after their December meeting.

• Members of clubs in Tracy or Mountain House are invited to share news about their groups. Send email to, call 835-3030 or leave a note at the Tracy Press, 131 W. 10th St.
