Girls basketball: Falcons go 1-2 at Ripon Christian tourney

The Millennium High girls basketball team finished the Ripon Christian Tournament with a come-from-behind victory against Big Valley Christian High of Modesto on Saturday, Dec. 28.

Millennium (4-8) started slowly with a 10-5 deficit in the first half and didn’t catch up until the fourth quarter, when the Falcons first outscored the Lions 11-3 to tie the game 23-23 and then outscored Big Valley 8-4 in overtime. Sophomore Ashley Hart scored 12 points for Millennium, including three 3-point shots, and freshman Amaya Salas scored 11, including three 3-pointers.

The victory followed a 40-35 loss Friday, Dec. 27, to Elliot Christian High of Lodi. The Falcons led for most of the game until Elliot outscored Millennium 20-12 in the fourth quarter. Hart led the Falcon offense with 17 points.

Millennium opened the tournament with a 56-31 loss to Hilmar High. Hilmar had a 24-7 lead in the first quarter and kept the advantage. Salas scored 13 points with three 3-pointers, and junior Reina Perales scored 12 points.

Delta Charter at West Coast Jamboree

The Dragons lost three games at the West Coast Jamboree at Alhambra High in Martinez.

Delta Charter (2-6) closed with a 59-22 loss to Bentley High of Lafayette on Monday, Dec. 30, as Bently took a 36-9 lead at the half and stayed in control of the game through the second half. Sophomore Katlin Goode led the Dragon offense with six points.

The second-round game, Saturday, Dec. 28, was a 45-25 loss to Alhambra High. Alhambra had a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and built on that lead through the second half. Senior Asia Harris scored eight points for the Dragons, and junior Haley Anderson scored six.

The Dragons lost their first game of the tournament 43-31 to Livermore Valley Prep on Friday, Dec. 27. The team had a strong first quarter and held a 22-19 lead at the half, but missed shots in the third quarter. Delta Charter senior Asia Harris scored 16 points.

Freshman girls: Kimball 38, Central Catholic 31

Kimball High’s freshmen took third place in the Chavez High tournament, sealing the finish Saturday, Dec. 28, with a win over Central Catholic High.

Mary Testafeldt scored 14 points for the Jaguars in that game and earned all-tournament honors, and Samantha Decker and Sabrina Zerby scored nine each.

Brianna Hill scored nine points for Kimball in a 37-32 loss to Buhach Colony in the semifinal round Friday, Dec. 27.

The Jaguars started the tournament with a 25-20 win against Chavez High. Testafeldt, Zerby and Jala Shakur each scored six points.
