Three local youth football players represented Tracy at the 2013 California All State Youth football game Sunday, Dec. 22, at Lindsay High School in Lindsay.
Three North vs. South games showcased sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade players.
The Northern California eighth-grade team included Tracy Junior Bulldogs varsity linebacker Kristien Reyes, Tracy Junior Bulldogs varsity defensive tackle Brandin Farmer and Tracy Buccaneers varsity linebacker Joshua Alvarado.
Oskar Reyes, Kristien’s father, said the players were selected for the team after coaches from Football University, a sports management and marketing group based in New Jersey, saw them play at the 2012 Delta Youth Football League Super Bowl at Kimball High in Tracy on Dec. 1, 2012. All three players were on the Junior Bulldogs junior varsity team that won the DYFL title that year.
The North led 20-8 going into the fourth quarter, but the South came back to tie it 26-26 with two minutes left. Reyes made a key tackle as the South went for a 2-point conversion at the end, forcing the game into overtime.
The North scored a touchdown in overtime, but officials reportedly ruled the game a tie after a commotion in the stands threatened to disrupt play.
Reyes made nine tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery, and Alvarado had five tackles.
