Press staff report

Time is growing short for nominations of new inductees into the revived Tracy Sports Hall of Fame.

Deadline for nominations to be submitted to the nominating committee is Dec. 15, said Steve Thornton, committee chairman.

“We’re encouraging nominations of both men and women in any kind of sports activities — participants (individuals and teams), coaches and contributors,” he said.

Nomination forms can be obtained on the Tracy Sports Hall of Fame website,, or by emailing The site also lists qualifications for those being nominated.

Filled-out nomination forms should be mailed to the Tracy Sports Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 544, Tracy, CA 95378-0544.

Nominating committee members will begin looking over nominations later this month and make their selections in mid-January, Thornton reported. The full Tracy Sports Hall of Fame Committee will receive the nominating committee’s recommendations Jan. 27.

New inductees will be honored at a banquet scheduled April 26 at the Elks Lodge.

April’s banquet will be the first held by the reorganized Tracy Sports Hall of Fame Committee. The original hall of fame honored inductees for nine years, from 1982 through 1990.

The committee plans to have induction banquets in alternate years beginning in 2014.
