Angelo Alex Abila, 20, is accused of shooting Mello during a party March 16 at the girl’s house on the 2800 block of Redbridge Road. He is charged with premeditated attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, assault with a firearm, street terrorism, inflicting great bodily injury, intentional and personal discharge of a firearm, and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Judge Franklin Stephenson approved a request by Deputy District Attorney Donald Vaughn on Monday to reschedule the hearing. Vaughn said one of his police department witnesses was unavailable to testify that day.
The judge rescheduled the preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 13 in Department 35 at the Stockton court.
Mello was shot once in the back, and the bullet remains lodged in her left lung, according to her mother, Yvette Perez.
Abila is being held without bail in San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.
