The Tracy Unified School District has hired Tracy Press managing editor Joel Danoy as communications specialist for the district.

Danoy, 28, is a 2009 graduate of West Virginia University and has worked at The Dominion Post in Morgantown, W.Va., and the Winchester Star in Winchester, Va. before joining the Press on Nov. 21, 2011. He is a native of Warrenton, Va.

Former communications specialist Jessica Cardoza resigned from the position in September.

Superintendent Dr. James Franco released a statement about the hiring Wednesday, Oct. 23.

"Joel’s education and experience in the media, combined with his practical experience, makes him an excellent fit for the communications specialist position," Franco stated. "We’re pleased to have someone with his qualifications join our staff."

Danoy's last day at the Press is Friday, Nov. 1. He starts Monday, Nov. 4 at TUSD.
