Girls Golf: Eight local players advance to division-level contests

Eight local golfers will advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section division level after they finished among the top golfers at their respective league tournaments this week.

Kimball High qualified three golfers for the SJS Division IV tournament based on their scores at the Valley Oak League championships on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Micke Grove Golf Links in Lodi.

Senior Taylor Honnoll qualified with a score of 101 on the par-73 course, as did her teammates junior Alyssa Lewis (106) and sophomore Maya Crooms (108).

Kimball (9-5 VOL) placed fourth at the league tournament. VOL champion East Union (435), runner-up Sierra (505) and third-place Sonora (516) all advance their full teams to the division level.

Scores for the rest of Kimball’s team were not available.

The Division IV tournament will be on Monday, Oct. 21, at the Diablo Grande Ranch Course in Patterson.

Two golfers from Tracy High are moving up to the SJS Division I South tournament.

Junior Kirsten Bas scored 101 on the par-72 Swenson Park Golf Course in Stockton on Monday, Oct. 14, at the San Joaquin Athletic Association championship event. Her teammate, senior Brooke Davis (117) also advances.

Tracy (6-4 SJAA) placed third at the SJAA tournament with a score of 596. League champion is Lodi (453) and runner-up is Lincoln (480), and they advance their full teams to the division tournament.

Completing Tracy’s team were junior Alee Balanon (122), sophomore Hunter Andrade(124), junior Amanda Vasquez (132) and freshman Gabby Burns (132).

West High golfers moving on to the SJS Division I South tournament include sophomore Audrey Romo, who led the West team with 115 on the par-73 Elkhorn Golf Course in Stockton at Monday’s Tri-City Athletic League championships. West sophomore Bobbi Loggins (118) and senior Ashley Gonzales (124) also advance.

West (4-6 TCAL) placed fourth at the TCAL tournament with a score of 662. League champion St. Mary’s (601) and runner-up Tokay (637) advance their full teams to the division level.

Also contributing to West’s score were juniors Gabrielle Taylor (147) and Samantha McCain (158).

The Division I South tournament will be on Monday, Oct. 21, at Turlock Golf and Country Club.
