Ramos finishes season as NYPL batting leader

 Tracy High graduate Steven Ramos, class of 2008, finished his baseball season with the State College,Penn., Spikes, as the batting leader for the New York-Penn League.

Ramos joined the Spikes, the Class-A short season affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, this year and has been with the Cardinals organization since the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.

Ramos batted .341 over 67 regular season games with the Spikes. He had 86 base hits, including 12 doubles, three triples and two home runs. He is the first player in the Spikes’ eight-year history to win the New York-Penn League’s batting title.

The Spikes went 48-27 for the season, won the NYPL Pickney Division title, and was league runner-up. The team’s season ended on Sept. 12 with a 4-3 loss at home to the Tri-City ValleyCats in the third game of a best-of-three championship series.
