Kimball prevails in crosstown water polo at West

Both of Kimball High’s varsity water polo teams beat West in crosstown action at West High’s Pinkie Phillips Aquatics Center on Friday, Sept. 13.

Kimball’s varsity girls beat West 19-5 in the non-league match. The Jaguars (5-2) charged out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter and controlled both sides of the pool through all four quarters. Eight Jaguar players scored goals, including junior Meagan Shwab with six scores and senior Alyssa Poley with three. Scoring for West (1-3) was senior Cassidy Waters with three goals and senior Geraldine Vasquez scored two.

Kimball’s boys won their game 10-5. Kimball (4-2) dominated early against West, taking a 9-1 lead in the first half. The Wolf Pack (0-4) defense was effective in the second half, but the West team was unable to make up for its early deficit.

Eight players scored for the Jaguars, with senior Trevor Trew and junior Reese Maxfield scoring two each. Senior Peter Creasman scored three of West’s goals, and sophomores Conner Waters and Parker Slayton also scored for the Wolf Pack.

 

West vs. St. Mary’s

West’s teams followed up on Tuesday, Sept. 17, with losses at home to St. Mary’s for the girls and the boys.

The St. Mary’s girls took a 21-4 win over the Wolf Pack. The Rams started with the advantage, consistently outscored West’s girls through the first half, and shut out West’s offense in the second half. Vasquez and Waters each scored for West in the first quarter and Waters scored two more in the second quarter.

The St. Mary’s boys dominated the pool for a 19-1 win as they shut out West for three quarters. Wolf Pack finally scored on a shot from Creasman near the end of the fourth quarter.

West also logged losses against TCAL opponent Tokay at home on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Tokay’s girls limited West’s offense to one goal through the first three quarters on the way to a 16-3 win for Tokay. Senior Madison Tessera scored for the Wolf Pack in the first quarter, and Waters scored two for West in the fourth.

The Tokay boys won their match 14-4 as the Tigers held a 5-1 lead at the half and continued to limit West’s offense through the second half. Creasman scored two goals for West and Waters and senior Mitch Cowles scored one each.
