A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 16, for the Rev. Tomaz Sequeira, 60, parochial vicar at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church since 2012.

Father Sequeira died Monday, Sept. 9, at his Tracy home following a short illness.

Born March 7, 1953, in Panjim, Goa, India, he was ordained in 1976 and taught theology for 18 years in Goa. During that time, he was chosen to translate the Old Testament into his native language, Konkani.

He moved to Tracy from New Delhi in 2012 and was pursuing his doctorate in biblical studies.

Survivors include two sisters, Celsia D’Souza, and her husband, Simao, and Philomena Carvalho, and her husband, Emmanuel, all of Goa; a brother, Joao Savio, and his wife, Carol, of Brisbane, Australia; a niece; three nephews; and several cousins.

His parents, Joao and Maria Sequeira, preceded him in death.

Monday’s Mass will begin at 7 p.m. at the Holy Family Center, 12100 W. Valpico Road. Burial will be in Goa.

A vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave., and visitation will be observed until 10 p.m.

Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or to the church’s garden fund, 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy, CA 95376.
