On Aug. 1, the 46-year-old launched Golden Kissed Tans — a mobile spray tanning service that provides all tanning services at the customer’s chosen venue.
“I got laid off at my job, and instead of sitting around, I found this,” she said. “I finally get to do my own thing. I’m really excited.”
Irish arrives at her clients’ homes fully equipped to handle individual customers or groups.
“I provide everything, and there’s nobody else doing it,” she said. “I love the product — I even use it myself.”
The idea of delivering one-on-one service to her clients was partly inspired by a personal experience. When she was 9 years old, Irish ran through a glass door and suffered scars on her body.
“You get really self conscious about how you look,” she said. “I know what it’s like to not feel comfortable in your own skin.”
She now aims to help others feel confident. Irish provides a pop-up tent, drop cloths and protective gear during her sunless tanning service.
Irish — who dipped into her retirement fund to start the business — provides only products that are free of parabens and gluten and are not tested on animals.
She will have a booth at the Tracy Dry Bean Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8.
“It’s only been a few weeks, but I already have a lot of events booked and coming up,” she said. “Who knows, maybe a year or two from now, I could need a staff.”
