Rohit Saini of Tracy claimed a gold medal at the AAU Junior Olympic Games at the Cobo Center in Detroit on Friday, July 26.

Saini, 9, was one of 16 competitors in the 8-9 black belt forms division at the Junior Olympics. His first-place finish followed a fourth-place finish at the AAU Taekwondo National Championships, which were July 1 to 6 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

To prepare, Saini trained three hours a day, five days a week for the past two months with seventh-degree black belt Y.G. Lee of Campbell Taekwondo Academy.
