Seniors can kick up their boots and do a fancy two-step to familiar classic country tunes.
Close to 100 Tracy residents packed the multipurpose room at the local center May 7. Tracy resident Rowena Donaldson sang a Merle Haggard classic, “Somewhere Between.” Donaldson was accompanied by the local jam band, composed of all seniors.
“This is a great community event,” Donaldson said. “I like to see the people dance and I enjoy dancing when I can. The jitterbug is my favorite dance.”
LaVonne Lewis attended, she said, because, “I love all the people here.”
“They almost seem like family,” she said. “If you haven’t been to this event, you should come down and try it. I would recommend this to anyone.”
The weekly Country Jubilee at the Lolly Hansen Senior Center has been taking place for more than a decade. Music ranges from classic country to gospel.
“It’s the dancing that brings us back,” said participant Marylin Clark. “It’s my favorite part.”
Admission cost is $2, and all seniors are welcome.
The Lolly Hansen Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. For more information, call 831-4230. A list of senior activities can be found at www.ci.tracy.ca.us.
