Three members of Boy Scout Troop 501 of Tracy recently became Eagle Scouts after completing service projects in the local community.

Cody Carlson, Nathan Van Katwyk and Peter Van Katwyk were celebrated during a joint Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Feb. 24.

Carlson, 17, built an interactive workbench that he gave to Astoria Gardens to entertain the elderly residents of the home, including Alzheimer’s patients.

Nathan Van Katwyk, 17, a member of the Kimball High School baseball team, led a group of volunteers in painting the school’s backstops, creating helmet cubbies in each dugout and adding signs with the school name and logo.

Peter Van Katwyk, 15, built nesting boxes for barn owls and gave them to farmers around Tracy to help control the rodent population. An owl box was also set up at Banta Elementary School.

All three Scouts are members of the Hidden Lake Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Carlson attends Tracy High School, and the Van Katwyks attend Kimball High School.
