Evelyn E. Stein, 92, a longtime local educator for whom Stein High School was named, died Feb. 26 at her home. Services are pending.

Mrs. Stein was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Sonoma County and moved to Tracy in 1946. She was a kindergarten teacher at Central Elementary School for three decades.

In 2007, Tracy Unified School District named Stein High, the local continuation school, in honor of her and her husband, George P. Stein Jr., a longtime elementary and high school trustee.

Mrs. Stein was a member of the Red Wing Collectors Society and Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Russa Robinson, and her husband, Mike, of Roberts Island; two granddaughters; a grandson; and six great-grandchildren.

Her husband of 68 years, George P. Stein Jr., preceded her in death Sept. 25, 2011.

Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., is handling arrangements. Burial will be private in Tracy Cemetery, and details of a celebration of life are to be announced.
