Over the past several years, teachers and students have endured dust and noise as outdated classrooms and portable buildings were torn down and the new James C. Franco classroom building and other structures went up.
The latest addition, a new version of Wayne Schneider Stadium, is finally taking shape.
“For six years we’ve had construction, so it’s nothing different, but it’s exciting now,” Noll said. “(Students and teachers) see the bleachers, and it’s like, ‘Wow!’ For so long it was the dirt field, so they’re very excited.”
On Thursday, March 7, construction crews from Southern Bleacher of Texas continued work on the stands on both sides of the field. Next week, the contractor is scheduled to use a crane to set the pre-assembled press box atop the home-side bleachers fronting East Street.
Also at work was a crew from Pro Spectra Contract Flooring of San Diego, which laid the plastic foam base and synthetic grass for the new football and soccer field.
As of Thursday, Pro Spectra had yet to stitch in the yard lines, hash marks and big T — for Tracy — at the 50-yard line.
Construction manager Anthony Continente of RGM and Associates, Tracy Unified School District’s engineering consultant, said Pro Spectra will take three weeks to finish the artificial turf, and Southern Bleacher’s work is on a similar timeline.
Completion of those projects will clear the way for work on the all-weather track.
The entire project is expected to be complete by June 10.
